NPSMA Workshop

"Diversity Recruiting in STEM Education Master's Programs"

May 26, 2015

Northern Arizona University Campus
Flagstaff, Arizona

The focus of this workshop is to provide participants with strategies to help broaden the participation of women and members of under-represented ethnic and racial groups in Professional Science Master’s (PSM) programs. There continues to be lower numbers of women and minorities who pursue a STEM career and this shortage continues in the workplace.

We plan to have speakers who can provide information on best recruitment and retention practices to not only help with recruitment but to assist with the retention and successful completion of the program and into the workplace. We plan to include a panel of students who will discuss the challenges they face as they navigate the program and the workplace. Other strategies on how to increase the number of undergraduate students who might see PSM programs as a viable option will also be shared include accelerated master’s program (3+2 and 4+1).
