Register now for the 13th annual NPSMA National Conference and Workshop! Meet your PSM colleagues from universities across the country. Discuss current and future collegial and employment issues. Learn about the range of PSM programs offered internationally and what makes them a success. And have some fun and enjoyment in San Diego at the same time. 

With an overall theme of “The Past 25 Years and the Next 25,” the pre-conference workshop and the conference will be blended this year for two full days of content flanked by a mixer/welcome program event and a conference follow-up. We also are including coordinated activities with colleagues. While a more detailed program will be posted in the coming months, in the meantime, an overview of the current schedule for the event is below:

Regarding content, this year's conference will explore post-pandemic, changing educational expectations, examine the international outlook, provide insight into a new social order for PSMs and consider what employers want today. The annual favorite Five-Minute Project (5MP) Presentation Competition will culminate in a special evening of awards and recognitions in a happy hour format. This event is always a special time for attendees. We welcome new program members and new PSM directors/administrators to attend and network with the legion of PSM colleagues. Anyone considering a PSM program at their institution is invited to join the conference and learn from experienced leaders representing successful programs across the country. Finally, enjoy the incomparable fall weather and attractions in San Diego and Southern California, as well as some special events we plan to facilitate for conference attendees.

More specifically, this year's conference will include sessions on:

  • International Outlook for the PSM Initiative
  • What STEM Employers Seek: Technical and Beyond in the Post-Pandemic World
  • Creating Community Within and Across the NPSMA Community
  • The Value of Change: Teaching Mindfulness, Self-Wellness, and Emotional Intelligence Techniques to STEM Students
  • Master of Science Individual Development Plans (msIDP): Tools for Your PSM Community
  • Five-Minute Project (5MP) Presentation Competition

PSM Student Event, Nov. 4:

5-Minute Project (5MP) Presentation Competition


The NPSMA is looking forward to a return of the live, 5-Minute Project (5MP) Presentation Competition. The format allows students and recent graduates to craft a 5-minute presentation describing their experiential work completed as part of their PSM program. This includes work completed as a capstone project, internship, or another professional experience project. Current students or recent graduates (Fall 2021, Spring or Summer 2022) from PSM-affiliated programs can participate. 


Directors, coordinators, or faculty of PSM-affiliated programs can submit the following information to the session moderator, Amber Bloechle (abloechle@uwf.edu), via email no later than September 9, 2022:

  • Student's/Graduate's name
  • Institution and Program
  • Talk Title
  • Abstract

NPSMA will cover registration fees for individual presenters invited to compete at this event. PSM programs or their university should provide support for the presenter's travel and lodgingPresentations will be on Friday, November 4, 2022. View the full Competition Rules for more information. 

Each year, the NPSMA receives financial support from industry and academic partners. Contributions to support the student 5-Minute Project (5MP) Presentation session starts at $250 higher-level contributions include conference registrations. All events will be held at the Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island. Use the group name "NPSM22" to receive the conference rate of $175/per night. The pre-programmed arrival date of Wednesday, November 2 and departure date of Sunday, November 6 may be edited to fit your plans. Traveling to California: There are currently no domestic travel restrictions or requirements in place in California.

San Diego International Airport: Masks are not currently required at SAN.

NPSMA events practices

  • Free Hilton shuttle to and from the airport.
  • Use of outdoor spaces, weather permitting.
  • Socially distanced seating options whenever possible.
  • Will provide 3-ply disposable (non-medical) masks.

Some features in addition to existing cleaning protocols:

  • Guest room surfaces disinfected.
  • Public spaces have readily available hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes, with increased scheduled cleaning.
  • Contactless options for check-in and food and beverage service.
  • Restaurant service includes the spacing of tables and chairs to promote proper physical distancing between guests while maintaining increased hygiene standards.
